Though this heading appears formal this is a
section of law which perhaps has the greatest practical effect
on all of us.
70% of UK businesses are family owned, accounting for 50% of the
total workforce. In a family owned business it is inevitable
that the distinction between work and home becomes blurred, and
balancing the demands of the two can become very difficult.
Many of the legal obligations which apply to large international
companies apply also to small companies and businesses. At the
start it is important to put in place the correct business
structure to govern the business’ internal relationships so as
to provide, at the very least, a framework should difficulties
arise in the future. We can discuss with you the various ways of
achieving this so that any structure reflects what is needed.
It is also important to control the business’ relationship with
others, such as suppliers and customers. Difficulties can be
avoided if your business trades with them on proper terms of
trading which will for example define when ownership in goods is
transferred, and clarify the obligations that the business will
undertake, and those that it will not.
Parliament and Europe have intervened to affect those
relationships and it is important to ensure that your business
complies. Dickins Hopgood Chidley will provide support and
assistance in these areas.
DHC can advise on all aspects of business acquisitions
and sales.
